Teaching Greenhouse

The UTM Greenhouse faclities has grown to include both the 5th floor Teaching Greenhouse and a new Research Greenhouse, located near HMALC.

Teaching Greenhouse

This facility provides plants and growing space for both teaching and research.

Students wishing to use the Teaching Greenhouse must be trained. To request training, please fill out the following fillable PDF and email it to Brenda Pitton (Greenhouse Coordinator).

Please note: The form cannot be filled in online. You will need to download the form and open it in Acrobat to fill it out, save it and email it.

How to get to the Teaching Greenhouse:

Standard Operating Manuals

Need to do some potting in the Greenhouse? Click on the link below to reserve the potting bench. Please note, you will need a valid UTORid. Reservations are currently restricted to faculty and staff. If you are an undergrad, please email Brenda Pitton (brenda.pitton@utoronto.ca) for access to the booking application. All potting bench bookings must be made 24 hours in advance.

Once you have made a booking, please fill out the Greenhouse Request Form to indicate:

  • all soil requirements
  • all pot requirements
  • any bench space required
  • any ongoing maintenance your plants may require from the greenhouse staff
  • how long are the plants expected to be in the greenhouse? (ie length of time of the experiment)

Email the form to Brenda Pitton to ensure that everything will be available at your reserved time (see instructions in the section below on how to submit the form).

Teaching Greenhouse

To order plants from the Teaching Greenhouse, please fill out the Teaching Greenhouse Request form. Please include all applicable detail such as:

  • all soil requirements
  • all pot requirements
  • any ongoing maintenance your plants may require from the greenhouse staff
  • how long are the plants expected to be in the greenhouse? (i.e. length of time of the experiment)

Download the file and save it to your computer with a new name. Fill in the text fields, re-save the file and email it to utm.biotgh@utoronto.ca. Once received:

  1. The request will be printed
  2. The planting calendar will be updated
  3. The request form will be added to Drop Box
  4. An email confirmation will be sent
