A rare chance to witness a near total solar eclipse on UTM campus!

A solar eclipse captures human imagination and shapes our conception of who we are in the broadest context. Targeting fundamental questions is a naturally interdisciplinary endeavour, connecting to physics, chemistry, math, engineering, earth science, and biology, while at the same time being intertwined with history, culture, and Indigenous ways of knowing. This event is an opportunity to spark curiosity and wonder in a broad audience while connecting the natural world to key global and cultural contexts.

Join us to witness and learn about this rare celestial event! Pack a picnic, bring a blanket or a folding chair and relax on the field outside of the Davis Building while Assistant Professor Marta Bryan and students of Astronomy and Biology describe the importance of the eclipse, discuss its effects and answer your questions.

  • 1:30 PM: Gather outside the Davis Building and pick up your viewing glasses
  • 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM: Eclipse, public lectures, Q&A
  • 3:20 PM - Mid point of eclipse

Each guest will receive a pair of Solar Eclipse Glasses to allow them to safely view the eclipse. Hot cocoa will be available, please bring your reusable mugs! Supplies are limited to registered guests only.

We highly recommend you read and follow these safety instructions. Absolutely never look into the sun without Eclipse Viewing Glasses.

Please contact Alumni Relations if you require information in an alternate format, or if any other arrangements can make this event accessible to you.
