Candice Jay (HBA 2007)
Candice Jay, recipient of the 2017 Desmond Parker Outstanding Young Alumni Award, received an HBA specializing in Culture, Communications and Information Technology, marketing and professional writing. Shortly after graduating, she entered the financial services industry and continued her industry designations. Jay joined Pembroke Private Wealth Management Ltd. in 2011 and currently serves as a financial advisor, account manager and alternate branch manager in the Toronto office. She is also responsible for the business development and client servicing for her clients across Canada but has a concentration in Ontario and British Columbia. Before joining Pembroke Private Wealth, she worked at HSBC Global Asset Management in the private investment management division for five years and retail branch network for two years.
In her spare time, Jay volunteers as an active member within Toronto’s Women in Capital Markets community and is involved in several mentorship programs. In 2015, she was one of the recipients of Women in Capital Markets Emerging Leaders Executive Coaching Award. "Through this program, we work closely with our partner financial institutions to identify high potential women early in their careers and provide them with the key leadership skills to help them advance professionally," says Jennifer Reynolds, CEO of Women in Capital Markets. "I am very pleased to congratulate this year's recipients on being recognized for their career accomplishments to date and I look forward to seeing them develop into the next wave of financial industry leaders."
Jay also volunteers for Junior Achievement Canada, delivering financial literacy programs and bringing real world experience into the classroom of middle school and high school students. She has served as a judge for the Junior Achievement Company Program competition. She also participates in judging Enactus Canada competitions for university students. Enactus is a global organization that shapes generations of entrepreneurial leaders who are passionate about advancing the economic, social and environmental health of Canada.
Jay represents U of T Mississauga alumni as a member of the University of Toronto College of Electors—the committee responsible for electing the Chancellor and alumni governors of the Governing Council. As an active member on the College, Jay was elected into the nominating committee for alumni governors, nominating committee for the executive committee and recently sat on the executive committee.
