Provostial Review

All academic units of the University of Toronto undergo period external review. These reviews reflect the University’s commitment to quality assurance and provide an unparalleled opportunity to secure the expert advice of leaders in the field concerning academic and administrative issues and to assess our performance against other leading international institutions. These reviews help to provide guidance for quality improvement and future directions.

In 2021-22, the Vice-President & Provost (University of Toronto) and the Vice-President & Principal (University of Toronto Mississauga) jointly commissioned an external review of the UTM academic portfolio with the following Terms of Reference

The review process included the creation of a self-study by the Vice-Principal, Academic and Dean, which was shared with Chairs, Directors, and Administrative Staff.

As announced to the UTM community, the site visit took place from April 26 to 28, 2023, with the following reviewers:

  • Ollivier Dyens, Professor and Former Deputy Provost, Student Life and Learning, McGill University
  • Linda McKie, Executive Dean, Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy, University of King’s College London
  • Philip Reid, Vice-Provost Academic and Student Affairs, University of Washington

The final report of the reviewers and the response of the Vice-Principal, Academic & Dean to the review will be presented to University governance in April 2024.
