My UTM Abroad experience to Italy enhanced my learning outside of the classroom, challenged me to problem solve in a foreign context, and enabled me to step out of my comfort zone, resulting in: personal, academic, and professional development. Not to mention trying foods like arancini and bread with chicory in Italy was delicious!

To apply to UTM, submit an application through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) website: ouac.on.ca

The minimum requirements for admission consideration vary by program. You must present all the requirements, including prerequisite courses, to be considered. All our programs have limited spaces, and the admission selection process is competitive.

AFTER APPLYING

After applying, you will receive an email acknowledgement from the University. This email will include your next steps, instructions to review the status of your application on our Join U of T applicant website ( join.utoronto.ca), and a complete list of required documents you may need to complete your application.

THEATRE & DRAMA AUDITION

If you apply to Theatre & Drama Studies, you are required to book an audition, which is weighted equally with your academic average. Once you have received an email with details about your Theatre & Drama Studies audition, please book it as soon as possible and pay the audition fee. CANADIAN STUDENTS

Generally speaking, all programs require a high school diploma, Senior Grade 12 English, and a competitive overall average (English + next best courses), and proof of adequate English facility, if necessary. See page 19 for admission requirements for Canadian education systems.

ONTARIO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

If you are a current full-time Ontario secondary school student, you will need to present an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, with six Grade 12 U or M subjects, or equivalent including English.

After applying, your school will send your marks to OUAC, and OUAC will send them to us.

Your admission average will be calculated with English (ENG4U) plus your next best five Grade 12 U or M courses. The University of Toronto reserves the right to give preference to students whose marks are the result of a single attempt at each course.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

We welcome applications from a wide range of international high school (secondary) systems. See page 20 for admission requirements for common international education systems.

RESIDENCE

UTM offers the widest variety of housing options across the University of Toronto with more than 1,500 single and double spaces in traditional-style rooms, apartments, and townhouses. Our residence units are equipped with fully furnished bedrooms and semi-private washrooms. The best part about living on campus? You’ll always be steps away from your next class or student life activity!

Residence is guaranteed for all new full-time students entering their first year of university in an undergraduate program for the first time, if you complete the First Year Housing Guarantee steps by March 31, 2024.

UTAPS fills the financial gap for Canadian full-time students who receive the maximum amount of government financial aid available, but whose government funding and other assessed financial resources do not cover all assessed costs. uoft.me/utaps

The University of Toronto Scholars Program recognizes outstanding students with individual awards worth $7,500. Outstanding domestic and international secondary school students are considered automatically on the basis of their average at the time of admission. Top applicants may also qualify for the President’s Scholars of Excellence Award which includes a $10,000 scholarship, guaranteed access to on-campus employment in second year, and guaranteed access to an international learning opportunity.

Prerequisites should be presented at Advanced or Advanced Subsidiary level with the exception of English, which may be presented at the IGCSE/GCSE/GCE O/AS or A Level.

Students who cannot or choose not to submit test results will not be disadvantaged in the admissions process; however, students who have written SAT or ACT tests previously, and wish to have these considered in their assessment, are encouraged to submit their scores.

Proof of English language proficiency is required from all applicants except for those:

• Whose first language is English, or

• Who have achieved satisfactory progress in at least four years of full-time study in an English language school system located in a country where the dominant language is English, or

• Whose first language is French and who have achieved satisfactory academic progress in at least four years of full-time study in Canada.

We accept (electronically only) a variety of international English language tests and qualifications, including the tests listed below.

TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TOEFL)

• Internet-based Test: Total score of 89 with at least 22 in each of Writing and Speaking. Electronic request code: 0982-00.

• Paper-delivered Test: Results will be reviewed on an individual basis.

INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING

SYSTEM (IELTS) ACADEMIC MODULE

• Minimum overall band of 6.5 with no band lower than 6.0.

• Electronic copies only sent from testing centre.

The Academic Culture & English (ACE@UTM) program allows students who did not quite meet UTM’s English Proficiency requirement to gain admission while continuing to develop their English language skills. Completing the ACE@UTM program may be a condition of an offer of admission. The program is not open for direct application—it is exclusive to students admitted to ACE@UTM.

IF YOU ARE TRANSFERRING FROM...

• Admission consideration is often based on your post-secondary cumulative grade point average (CGPA), although we will review your entire academic record, including your secondary school studies.

• Competitive applicants normally have a minimum of a high B average in their college studies, provided they include sufficient academic content.

• Some UTM programs require higher standing and additional prerequisite courses for admission.

• We accept Grade 12 U courses or equivalent, or two full college semesters of an academic subject to meet prerequisites.

• One semester of math must include Calculus to be equivalent to our Calculus & Vectors (C) requirement. Statistics or college-preparation math is not sufficient to meet the math requirements.

CANADIAN UNIVERSITY

• Admission consideration is often based on your post-secondary cumulative grade point average (CGPA), although we will review your entire academic record, including your secondary school studies.

• Competitive applicants usually have a solid B average.

• Program-area prerequisites can be met with high school Grade 12 U courses (or equivalent) or half-credit university-level courses.

INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY

• If you are attending or have attended a recognized university or college and have a strong academic record, you will be considered for admission based on your post-secondary cumulative grade point average (CGPA), although we will review your entire academic record, including your secondary school studies.

Certain high school curricula (e.g., AP, IB, GCE) may be considered automatically for transfer credit. For post-secondary studies completed at recognized institutions, we have a transfer credit process to determine which UTM equivalent courses you may be eligible to receive.

The Art & Art History and Theatre & Drama Studies programs are offered jointly between U of T Mississauga and Sheridan College. Students in these programs take classes at both campuses and earn both a University of Toronto degree and a Sheridan diploma.
