Ilia Maria Ferzoco, PhD candidate, was awarded the esteemed Pekka K. Sinervo Scholarship for 2023 and the Ramsey-Wright Graduate Scholarship from Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. These accolades recognize her exceptional academic aptitude, leadership, and dedication to advancing scientific knowledge in the field of freshwater ecology.
Melody Yazdani and Valentyn Sobolenko emerged as runner-ups on the highly anticipated BIO481 Presentation Day held on April 10.
BIO481, a rigorous 4th-year research course in Biology, provides students with an opportunity to work on their own projects in collaboration with UTM Biology faculty. The students, who earned a full credit for their research, presented their theses showcasing their exceptional dedication, innovation, and scientific prowess.

Celina Javier and Veronica Venditti, under the guidance of Prof. Gerlai, have emerged as the winners of the April 10 BIO481 Best Presentation Award with their research project, titled "Appetitive Associative Learning & Memory: A New Fish Model in Behavioral Neuroscience with Mikrogeophagus ramirezi".
Celina Javier is going into her fourth year of Neuroscience specialist and a Biology minor. Next year, she will finish her Honours Bachelor of Science degree.
Renowned scholar Professor Angela B. Lange has been elected last January as a Fellow of the North American Society of Comparative Endocrinology (NASCE) in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the field. This esteemed honor highlights Professor Lange's profound expertise in comparative insect endocrinology and physiology and her significant impact on advancing our understanding of hormonal regulation in diverse organisms.
Drs. Luca Finetti and Jimena Leyria, had their paper Tyraminergic control of vitellogenin production and release in the blood-feeding insect, Rhodnius prolixus published by Insect Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Both Finetti and Leyria are Postdoctoral Fellows in Lange and Orchard Lab.
On April 10, 2023, our BIO400 students gathered together to present their reports on their internship experience.
The presentations showcased the various internships that the students undertook during the BIO400 course. Each presentation was unique and highlighted the different skills and experiences gained by the students during their internships. However, two students stood out from the rest. Lara Navarro and Everton Smith were awarded the Best Presentation Awards for their exceptional presentations.
