Celebrating Kent Moore’s extension as Vice-Principal, Research

Alexandra Gillespie

I am delighted to announce that Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved a one-year extension – from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024 – for Professor Kent Moore as Vice-Principal, Research at U of T Mississauga.

Professor Moore continues to raise the standard of research excellence as an expert on Arctic climate dynamics. He has earned more than $8.5 million in research funding and published over 200 peer-reviewed articles, including in NatureScience, and the New England Journal of Medicine. His research shapes public conversations, too, frequently featured in national media to address urgent questions about climate change. In 2018, he earned election as a fellow in the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.

Professor Moore has had a similarly positive impact as our Vice-Principal, Research over the past five years. He and his team have collaborated with colleagues across the university to strengthen our outstanding core research facilities; expand supports for successful grant writing; and promote research-based entrepreneurship, including through the recent creation of SpinUp, U of T’s first wet lab accelerator for early-stage life science innovation. Thanks to his and his team’s leadership, UTM is now developing the first Strategic Research Framework in our campus’s history, on track for completion later this year.

Please join me in congratulating Professor Moore on this extension. I look forward to continuing our work together – and to realizing our community’s vision as a global leader in research and innovation.
