In July 2024, the R-BLISS (Black and Indigenous Supports for Social-Emotional Development) Project conducted a three-week virtual social-emotional pilot training for 47 educators who work in the Peel Region. The purpose of this training was to strengthen educators’ capacities to support the social-emotional development and well-being of children, with a particular focus on Black children.

Following the training, the R-BLISS team reviewed and analyzed the feedback surveys that educators completed and compiled the key findings into a report for our community partners, policymakers, and members of the community. The report highlights the feasibility and efficacy of the culturally adapted social-emotional pilot training. We hope the results in this report emphasize the importance of infusing culturally relevant social-emotional content into training initiatives for educators, and that the findings serve as a resource to inform and improve future social-emotional training efforts geared towards supporting Black children.
