UTMAGS is hosting a scientific illustrations workshop based on popular demand! On March 16th at 5pm, we will be hosting Martin Krzywinski in a hybrid workshop! Martin is a data visualization expert whose graphics have appeared in the New York Times, Wired and Scientific Journals like Science, Nature and PNAS. During this workshop you will trained in:
Visual Communication:
- You will learn how to develop themes to better tell a story with your presentations, posters and graphics
- Learn how to maintain clarity, continuity and flow for your own illustrations, graphics and slides
Feedback for Your Submission!
- You can submit graphical abstracts, figures or posters (past or current) and there is a chance that your illustrations will be redesigned by Martin

Biomedical Communication (BMC) Presentation:
- A representative of the BMC program will present services and opportunities graduate students can provide on a freelance basis
- MSc BMC graduate students are trained to create clear, compelling and accurate visuals for published figures, graphical abstracts or posters and are looking for opportunities to work with you!

Developing a clear, accurate, and well-justified budget is a critical skill for graduate students engaged in research and academic initiatives. This interactive workshop will guide participants through the process of budget development – from mindset to methodology – using real examples and hands-on practice. Graduate students are encouraged to bring any budget they are currently developing.
Lunch will be provided for in-person participants following the workshop. Takeout containers will be available for those observing Ramadan.

This 90-minute session is catered towards graduate students and post-docs who are interested in exploring how to develop their teaching philosophy statements. In this session, presenters will introduce reflective practice as a tool for developing your teaching philosophy. You will be invited to think about your teaching and learning beliefs and your most memorable teaching experiences. This session will introduce different models of self-reflection and ways to incorporate reflective practice in your teaching. The session will end with a review of sample teaching philosophies and suggested ways to collect evidence of your teaching to support reflective practice.
