Beautiful Mind Day II

Beautiful Mind Event - May 6, 2024

We are thrilled to invite you to the upcoming Beautiful Mind Event on May 6, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Organized by Erin Mills Connects (EMC) and in collaboration with the Centre for Child Development, Mental Health, and Policy at the University of Toronto Mississauga, this event promises to be an inspiring continuation of our commitment to fostering student mental health.

Event Highlights: Student mental health ambassadors from various elementary and middle schools in Mississauga will convene to share their schools' initiatives promoting student mental health. Building on the success of EMC's fall 2023 event, this gathering aims to facilitate meaningful discussions, idea exchanges, and engaging activities.

Recap of Beautiful Mind Day - November 30, 2023: The previous Beautiful Mind Day in November 2023 saw over 180 participants, including students, teachers, support staff, community members, and organizations, coming together to prioritize mental health. Hosted at the new Mattamy Sports Dome at the Churchill Meadows Community Centre, students from 11 schools enjoyed activities and games co-facilitated by John Fraser S.S., UTM students, and EMC volunteers.

Based on research from the Centre for Child Development, Mental Health, and Policy, the activities focused on promoting The 3Es of Social-Emotional Development©: emotion regulation, empathy for others, and empathy for the self. Students reported gaining insights into emotions and communication in mental health, learning to see others' perspectives, including understanding their siblings' feelings.

Facilitators and volunteers were impressed by the students' curiosity and excitement about mental health, emphasizing the astounding capacity of young children. Teachers found the activities engaging, creating connections between emotions and mental health, providing valuable ideas for their wellness teams, and fostering connections between students from different schools.

We express our gratitude to our community partner, EMC, for their dedicated support and collaborative efforts in making these events possible. The Centre for Child Development, Mental Health, and Policy is proud to contribute to the well-being of our community and looks forward to another enriching event that promotes understanding, connection, and advocacy for student mental health.

Join us on May 6, 2024, as we continue to celebrate the beauty of young minds and nurture a culture that prioritizes mental health and well-being. Your participation is a vital step towards creating a positive impact on the future of our community. Together, let's build a world where compassion, understanding, and support flourish for all.
