It began with a hand-drawn hopscotch court and ended with a panel of experts from the world of gaming. 

The University of Toronto Mississauga Day of Play saw the campus transformed into a day-long play zone last week, to officially launch a new game studies program in English & Drama and ICCIT along with recently acquired gaming-related materials from the UTM Library.

As an alumna of the art and art history specialist program at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM), Professor Maria Hupfield developed a youth media literacy program called ‘7th Generation Image Makers’ along with an art and mural program at Native Child and Family Services of Toronto.

Sabrin Mohamed, Assistant to the Chair in the Department of English & Drama, has received the UTM Principal’s Staff Award’s Karen Thiffault Award for Enhancing the UTM Experience.

“The department, quite simply, couldn't be the thriving, dynamic, welcoming place that it is without Sabrin,” her nominator says. “She is, without question, the finest staff member I’ve worked with at any institution.”

She is praised for understanding the culture and needs of the Department in a deep way, far beyond the strict demands of her job description.
