*update*: Amanda Dindayal is currently a Consultant with Deloitte & Touche

Amanda Dindayal is an Auditor with Deloitte and Touche and is also working towards her Chartered Accountant designation.

“My job requires organizational skills, communication skills, time management skills as well ad being friendly and positive,” says Amanda, who previously worked as a staff accountant for one year.

Amanda, who was a part of student clubs at UTM and volunteered teaching students through Junior Achievement, found her job with Deloitte when they came to UTM to recruit students.

“I would have liked to taken a co-op program. In retrospect, I might also have taken less courses in my first year,” she says.

She says the key to her success has been determination.

“It is important to have a plan, although it’s okay to not have one right away. Work towards your goals,” she says.

“My advice to students is to get involved in the community — do an internship over the summer if you can — to see if it is what you like. Remember that grades are important, but they are not everything. You don’t need a 4.0 grade point average to get a job. I started out in the sciences and changed to Commerce.”
