My research explores how methods developed in the field of ecology can be applied to problems in cell biology. Currently, I am working on developing methods for rapidly assessing the morphological diversity of patient-derived cancer organoids, exploring how phenotypic heterogeneity correlates with treatment outcomes and other properties of interest. In general, I am interested in questions related to the measurement of complex systems and their properties, from bacterial colonies to the global biosphere. My work combines the methods and techniques of ecology with ideas derived from soft computing and information theory.

"I got my BSc degree from Beijing Normal University and came here for the MSc program. My work is mainly on the optical tweezers, including the development of the technology and the biological experiments related to nucleoid associated proteins. As for my hobby, I enjoy walking around the city during the weekend to experience the diverse culture."

The integration of time-lapse fluorescence microscopy and microfluidic devices provides high spatiotempraol resolution that enables us to able to track the dynamics of single cells. I am developing an imaging system and monolayer cultivation chambers within microfluidics devices in order to study the long-term bacterial competition among micro-colonies.
