Yesterday I saw two Danaus plexippus (Monarch butterflies) while driving.  A very slow moving front was passing through the region.

- - 8:00 - - - - - - 342° 2.3 m/s 19.0°C no - Hawks (Buteo sp.) were flapping instead of soaring.
- - 8:42 - - - - - - - - - no - Wayne Wolf (WW):  Radar showed widely scattered targets moving downwind.  Chimney Swifts were foraging.

puffs
Thermal puffs indicated  that the nocturnal inversion was breaking down.   Swallows were foraging.
- - 9:01 - - - - - - 346° 2.3 m/s 20.5°C - - WW:  Radar-reflective balloon that was released  tracked on a  176° bearing at 55 m.
- - 9:15 - - - - - - - - - yes - A Turkey Vulture was soaring at 60 m.  Visit the Turkey Vulture Society for more information about vultures.
- - 9:27 - - - - - - - - - - - WW:  Radar shows butterfly-like targets at an altitude of 400 m and out to 2 km - bearing SW.  A Great Blue Heron flew over and a  Battus philenor (Pipevine Swallowtail) flew past.
