Gary Crawford

Anthropology Professor Gary Crawford
The Episode 7, Season 1 of VIEW to the U podcast features Professor Gary Crawford from the Department of Anthropology.

On this edition of VIEW to the U podcast, Gary takes us on a journey through his scholarly explorations of Japan and China that span his career, the early influences that have inspired his lifelong curiosity for cultures and peoples, and the changes he has seen over his time on the U of T Mississauga campus, where he has been on faculty since 1979.

His research area of expertise is in archeological botany and environmental archaeology, in which he investigates the origins and intensification of agriculture, as well as a populations’ connection to plants, particularly in East Asia and in China. He speaks Japanese (and English of course) and works in French, but says that he is struggling to deal with Chinese (Mandarin).
