She is an eminent expert on the history of art history, and her research areas include Renaissance and Baroque art and architecture writ large. She has worked on the art and biographical legacy of 17th-century Italian sculptor and architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the art of the Jesuit order, the runaway religious order of the 16th century, and more recently has started working on the transatlantic Hispanic Baroque.
