Annual Research Prize Symposium


The UTM Annual Research Prizes were established by the Office of the Vice-Principal, Research and UTM’s Research Council in 2016 to recognize outstanding contributions of early career researchers and scholars in the Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences.

The recipients for the 2021 Annual Research Prizes at U of T Mississauga are the following:

UTM ANNUAL RESEARCH PRIZE IN THE SCIENCES

Professor Andrew Beharry from the Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences was selected as a co-recipient of this prize for his outstanding contributions to understanding and treating various types of cancers.

Professor Bailey McMeans from the Department of Biology was selected as a co-recipient of this prize for her outstanding contributions to ecology through studies of the responses of aquatic animals to changing environmental conditions.
 

UTM ANNUAL RESEARCH PRIZE IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES

Professor Cosmin Munteanu from the Institute of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology was selected for his outstanding contributions to the study of human-computer interaction, user experience design, digital inclusion, aging, natural language processing, and ethics.


UTM ANNUAL RESEARCH PRIZE IN THE HUMANITIES

Professor Owen Ware from the Department of Philosophy was selected for his outstanding contributions to the study of Kant, German idealism, and 19th-century philosophy. 
 


All four of the 2021 UTM Annual Research Prize Recipients are being celebrated at a Research Prize Symposium in their honour.
