The Office of the Vice-Principal, Research and UTM’s Research Council established the UTM Annual Research Prizes to recognize outstanding contributions of early career researchers and scholars in the Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences.
The following three recipients of the 2018 UTM Annual Research Prizes are being acknowledged for their respective academic accomplishments at University of Toronto Mississauga and around the world:
UTM Annual Research Prize in the Humanities
Professor J. Barton Scott from the Department of Historical Studies was selected for his outstanding contributions to the field of cultural history and the study of religions.
UTM Annual Research Prize in the Sciences
Professor Marc Laflamme from the Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences was selected for his outstanding contributions to the study of the world’s oldest animal fossil record and Ediacaran preservation.
UTM Annual Research Prize in the Social Sciences
Professor Erin Tolley from the Department of Political Science was selected for her outstanding contributions to the study of socio-demographic diversity on Canadian politics and political institutions.
All three recipients will be celebrated at a symposium: Thursday, November 29 from 1 to 3 pm in DV-3130 (Council Chambers).
