In addition to his Discovery Grant, Professor Patrick Gunning from the Department of Chemical & Physical Sciences was awarded an NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement for $120,000 over three years to support his project, “Controlling Protein Complexation and Cellular Localization using Novel Molecular Therapeutics.”  The Accelerator Supplement “aims to provide substantial and timely additional resources to accelerate progress and maximize the impact of outstanding research programs” according to NSERC’s website.

“These NSERC grants reflect on the excellent work in the sciences being conducted on our campus,” said Bryan Stewart, UTM’s Vice-Principal, Research. “The Discovery Grant program is a foundation that supports basic research and UTM is very pleased with the high level of success shown by the faculty this year. The funding will allow UTM researchers to continue their important work and train the next generation of scientists in their fields of study”.

The full list of UTM researchers awarded Discovery Grants include the following recipients:

  • Ilia Binder, Mathematical & Computational Sciences, Applications of the Geometric Function Theory to Mathematical Physics
