Planning on pursuing a graduate degree in Biophysics or Biological Chemistry? Want to jump start your graduate research? Interested in a future career in biotech? Curious about what it takes to build your own start-up?
The INSPIRE Scholars Program will introduce students to the cutting-edge biophysical techniques that are reshaping our understanding of the biological world. This immersive, interdisciplinary program is designed to prepare students for graduate school and beyond.
What to expect?
The theme for the 2023 INSPIRE Scholars program will be 21st Century Biophysical Techniques. Breathtaking advances in the application of techniques from the physical sciences to the study of biological systems has led to remarkable insights into the cellular and molecular basis of life.
This two-week, immersive curriculum will provide a crash-course in an array of biophysical techniques, both experimental and computational, with “hands-on training modules” directly within the research labs of scientists developing and applying these tools. Students may choose from modules on super-resolved imaging, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, single-molecule spectroscopy, computational molecular dynamics, among others. Taught by distinguished U of T faculty, with guest lectures from a variety of entrepreneurs and founders of start-ups from within the GTA biotech ecosphere.
Who should apply?

This program is primarily geared toward third and fourth year undergraduate students considering pursuing graduate school in Physics, Chemistry, or other fields of Quantitative Biology, as well as incoming U of T graduate students in Physics, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, etc. However, exceptional second year undergraduates with experience in physics/chemistry/biochemistry are also encouraged to apply.
Fees & Registration
Acceptance into the program is expected to be highly competitive. If admitted, students will be provided with a tuition fellowship to cover the costs of all instruction and laboratory fees. Students will be responsible for the additional costs of room and board should this be required.
The application period has now closed. Results will be announced by April 3, 2023.
