The UTM Emerging Leader Award recognizes new-to-UTM students who show dedication and involvement and aspire to improve and contribute to the UTM community. New-to-UTM students includes first year, transfer, and any students who are completing their first year at UTM. The UTM Emerging Leader Award recognizes student involvement in the UTM community and new-to-UTM students who are building a strong foundation for future growth and leadership.

To be eligible for this award, students must be completing their first year as a full-time student at UTM and not have completed more than 5 UTM credits (not including transfer) by May, and be in good academic standing.

Involvement, for the purposes of this award, is defined as the number of ways that students engage with campus life outside of their regular academic work. This includes, but is not limited to: significant leadership in campus groups and organizations, active involvement on academic committees and councils, paid employment in one of the university's academic or administrative departments, and off-campus community service where the activity has a direct link to UTM.

A maximum of 6 awards will be given each year across multiple disciplines.

Selection Process

Completed applications will be reviewed by a selection committee

The selection committee will be interested in learning specifically about how the student’s involvement has not only shaped the quality of life at UTM, but also how this involvement has impacted their personal and academic success in your first year at UTM.
