Eagle2Eagle - Your First Six Weeks

The first six weeks is an important period of transition, learning, and development for a new student. As a new student to UTM, you may have questions or may require guidance. As a way to provide answers in a timely manner we encourage students to email questions to: eagle2eagle.utm@utoronto.ca

You will receive a response within two business days after sending the email.

We want to welcome you to the University of Toronto Mississauga and hope you take advantage of all the wonderful campus resources which are available to you.

Why Request a Call?

Are you a newly accepted UTM student? Interested in speaking to a successful Upper Year student about the first-year experience? Then Request a Call with one of our team! Our Upper Year students are engaged students from the same academic stream as you (Science, Business, Social Sciences and Humanities) who have previous experience in mentorship and leadership programs at UTM and are knowledgeable about life on campus.

You can take advantage of this call by asking our upper year students a variety of questions such as:

  • What was your first year at UTM like?
  • What is Orientation and how do I take part?
  • What kind of support exists to help me transition successfully into university?
  • Do you have any tips on how to get involved on campus?

You may choose to Request A Call through the phone, or video chat using Skype or Facebook Messenger.

Louis Nguyen Louis

Year of study: Just graduated!

Program of study: Finance Specialist, Economics Major.

One fun fact about me: I hate scary movies.

One thing I wish I knew in first year: I wish I had known the value in getting involved with the university community in my first year. After joining different clubs and societies, it fostered my educational experience and I met so many new people. The self-growth and novel friendships from these experiences are truly unforgettable.

GraceGrace Wang

Janina Malapitan Janina

Year of study: 4th year.

Program of study: CCIT major, PWC and Cinema Studies double minor.

One fun fact about me: I am a New-to-Canada student! New-to-Canada students are domestic but have lived in Canada for less than 5 years.

One thing I wish I knew in first year: I wish I knew just how essential it is to go to office hours. I've always been a timid student, but just this past year I finally pushed myself to get help from my profs when I needed it. Needless to say, my grades reflected my efforts positively!

Natalie Cuei Natalie

Year of Study: 4th year.

Program of Study: Forensic Anthropology Specialist.

One fun fact about me: I once tried to see how many grapes I could put in my mouth and got to 20.
(please don't try this as I found out that grapes are one of the easiest foods to choke on)

One thing I wish I knew in first year: I wish I knew of all the different study spots around campus in addition to the library, like the study cubicles around campus, the study rooms at Deerfield Hall (DH) and the comfy couches on the upper floors of the Communication Culture & Technology Building (CCT). There’s so many hidden spots to discover here at UTM!

Fathama Arshad

One fun fact about me: I love to knit!

One thing I wish I knew in first year: In my first year, I wish I knew about the tunnel between Davis and Kaneff.

Mehr Motwani Mehr

Year of study: 4th year.

Program of study: Specialist in Molecular Biology, Minor in Chemistry

One fun fact about me: I was born and brought up in China! The first time I left Asia was when I came to Canada in my first year.

One thing I wish I knew in first year: I wish I knew the importance of getting involved and making connections with new people. I never got outside of my comfort zone, and I wish that I took advantage of more opportunities by participating in different clubs and departments on campus.

JohnJohn Spiteri

Ayesha Siddiqui Ayesha

Year of study: 4th Year.

Program of study: Digital Enterprise Management.

One fun fact about me: I love DIY's! I like to make things like room decor and origami.

One thing I wish I knew in first year: I wish I did more extra-curricular activities in first year, because that is what makes your university experience more enjoyable! You get to apply what you're learning outside of class to your experiences. It's a great way to meet lots of new people and make lots of new friends.

MinalMinal Ghayur

Year of study: 4th Year.

Program of study: Commerce and Economics.

One fun fact about me: I have gotten an (unfortunate) nose job. The first day I ever started riding a two wheeler bike I went down a hill, lost control of my bike, couldn't stop, and fell on my nose. Hence the nose job.

One thing I wish I knew in first year: Step out of your comfort zone. Whether it is talking to the person sitting beside you in class, going up to your professor, going to an event or trying new food on campus. Stepping out of my comfort zone has helped me feel a sense of community at UTM.

A quick note:

  • Our calls are primarily for students who have been newly accepted into the University for our Undergraduate programs. If you are a prospective graduate student, we invite you to connect directly with the host department for information on transitioning to UTM
  • If you are a student who has already completed courses at UTM (0.5+ credits) and has questions, please connect with your department offering your program of study
