Internship Opportunities Summer 2021

Internship projects are based on departmental need and the strengths of the intern, so no two projects are alike. During the application process, you will be asked to select up to three departments you are interested in working with and pitch a project idea for each. Some departments have also proposed project ideas they are looking to be fulfilled.

Centre for Student Engagement - Accepting interns for Summer 2021

The Centre for Student Engagement at the University of Toronto Mississauga is committed to holistic student learning and development. Informed by research and assessment, our campus & community based co-curricular programs, services and initiatives promote access to post-secondary education, transition into university, student engagement and community engaged learning.

Current Opportunities: 

Civic Engagement Assistant

Civic Engagement in higher education is a convergence of student learning and social responsibility. The Centre for Student Engagement is seeking support in the development and expansion of Civic Engagement programs. The intern will be responsible for environment scans, content creation, assessment planning and partnership exploration for the creation of civic programming. This role will look to collaborate and coordinate efforts around democratic engagement to allow students to discover educational opportunities for dialogue and discourse in exploring advocacy in the community and on campus.

Training Coordinator

The Centre for Student Engagement is seeking support in developing a scaffolded training program for the (120+) student staff within the centre. The intern will help with exploring the requirements of all student roles, understanding how the roles connect and differ across the department to provide a strategic CSE training that allows for all students to receive core training alongside the requirements of their individual roles. In addition, the intern will apply their knowledge of student development theory and student services/campus services to design a curriculum that will support student staff throughout the year with additional professional development opportunities required for their success, including on-going training, reflection and assessment to support their learning and development.

Re-orientation Assistant

The Centre for Student Engagement is seeking support in developing a series of strategies to orient our second-year students as they transition from virtual learning to on-campus student experiences. This suite of programming will focus both on community building and upper-year skill development, thus building students’ capacity to fully participate in university life. Informed by student development theory, the intern will work alongside a professional staff member and team of student leaders to support program development by conducting a needs assessment, determining program learning outcomes, designing a programming plan, creating content, informing a marketing strategy, and designing assessment tools.


International Education Centre - Accepting applications for Winter 2021

The International Education Centre provides a range of programs and services tailored to support and enhance the experience of our global students. Committed to holistic learning, we strive to meet the diverse needs of our global students while ensuring compliance with changing government policy related to immigration and international student support from authorized educational agents.

Current Opportunities: 

Program Development Assistant 

The International Education Centre requires support in our hiring and training process, as well as developing programs for target populations. The intern will assist with the IEC work cycle for student staff selection and training, including student application support through to on-boarding new student employees and preparation for work. In addition, the intern will apply their knowledge of student development theory and student services/campus services to design a curriculum that will support high achieving students through their first year.

Intercultural Programs  Assistant 

The International Education Centre requires support in the delivery of the Global and Intercultural Fluency Training Series (GIFTS) program. The intern will be responsible for content creation, program delivery, evaluation and assessment. The intern will facilitate GIFTS to a small cohort of students on a weekly basis for 1.5 synchronous hours for 5 week period. Intern candidate must have strong facilitation skills and experience with topics related but not limited to: interculturalism, globalization and global citizenship, and social justice and human rights issues. 


Health & Counselling - Not accepting interns for Winter 2021

The Health & Counselling Centre offers support, resources and care for physical and mental health issues, as well as supports students in difficulty and crisis. Our services include comprehensive medical care, counselling & psychiatric care, nutritional counselling, health education and promotion, dispensary, vaccinations and immunizations and more.


Student Housing & Residence Life - Not accepting interns for Winter 2021

Office of the Registrar - Not accepting interns for Winter 2021

The Office of the Registrar is the administrative office responsible for undergraduate recruitment and admissions, transfer credit, registration, enrolment, academic and financial advising, financial aid services, scheduling, exams, records management, and graduation. Students receive one-on-one guidance to ensure that the quality of support meets their individual needs whether in person, or online. We work with partners across the entire university including the Dean’s Office, academic departments and student affairs.  We leverage existing and new technologies to support students, staff, and faculty to maximize efficiencies, excellent service, and meaningful collaboration


Accessibility Services - Not accepting interns for Winter 2021

The mission of Accessibility Services is to ensure that all students with disabilities can freely and actively participate in all facets of University life; to provide and coordinate services and programs that enable students with disabilities to maximize their educational potential and to increase awareness of inclusive values among all members of the University community.


Career Centre - Not accepting interns for Winter 2021

To engage students in the career development process throughout their time at UTM and two years after graduation. As career educators, the UTM Career Centre helps students and recent graduates to: Make career & academic plans, based on self-knowledge & career information; Identify & seek relevant experience and relevant network connections during & after UTM; and learn the process of lifelong career management.
