Test Schedule

Time Details
8 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. Candidates will be checked in, registered and admitted into test space. Doors will be closed at 8:45 a.m. and candidates WILL NOT be admitted after this time.
9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Listening, Reading and Writing testing.
1:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. Speaking Interviews. Interview times are assigned after the listening/reading/writing session of the test. Candidates should make arrangements to prepare to stay for the entire test day.

Speaking interviews may also be scheduled up to seven (7) days before or after the test day at a different time.

Speaking test times are non-negotiable unless proof of extenuating circumstances is provided.

Candidates are notified of their speaking test date five (5) days prior to the speaking test. 

Confirmation of Test Day Details

Candidates will receive confirmation of details at least 5 days before the requested test date as long as their complete application documentation (application, ID document and payment form) has been received at least 5 days before the requested test date.  Candidates who apply less than 5 days before the requested test date will receive confirmation as soon as it is processed following the receipt of all required application documentation (the completed online or paper application, scanned copy of identification page of ID document, either passport or Permanent Resident (PR) card and a completed payment form).  If you have submitted all the required application documents and haven't received your confirmation email as noted above, please check your spam/junk mailbox. If you still cannot find your confirmation email, please contact the test centre directly.


Registration closes at 8:45 a.m and late arrivals will not be admitted.

Identification - Important Information

Candidates are required to bring in their valid proof of identity document and the identity document must be the same one that was submitted with their application. Candidates who do not bring their valid proof of identity document WILL NOT be able to write the test. There are no exceptions.

Test Room Requirements

 You will be provided with HB2 pencils, a pencil sharpener, and an eraser for use during the Listening, Reading, and Writing Test. These materials must be returned at the end of the test. You will not be permitted to bring your own writing materials into the test room. 

You may bring water as long as it is in a clear and transparent bottle with no writing or labels. You will only be permitted to bring water and your original identification document into the test room. No other items will be allowed. 

Personal Items

A secure space will be provided on test day for items such as coats, bags, wallets, cell phones, watches and any other personal items. All items other than those allowed into the test room must be checked in. These items will be returned after completion of the test. It is strongly recommended that candidates only bring with them the items that are allowed into the test room and leave their valuables at home. Please note that personal items are left at your own risk and the IELTS Test Centre at UTM assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items.

Test Length

The total length of the test is 2 hours, 45 minutes. The Listening, Reading, and Writing tests are administered in the morning. Speaking interviews are scheduled during the afternoon of the test day or up to 7 days before or after the test date. Please note that there are no breaks while testing is taking place. Candidates are advised to take any required breaks (including washroom breaks) prior to registration.
