UTM's Krull, graduate student present at TEDxUofT

U of T Mississauga vice-president and principal Ulrich Krull and graduate student Sasha Weiditch will join nine other speakers at the 7th annual TEDxUofT conference on Saturday, March 10, at Toronto’s St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, 27 Front St. E.

The event, titled Deconstruct, will bring together the U of T community for an exciting day of inspiring talks, performances and conversation. Other speakers include current U of T student and Youtuber Sabrina Cruz as well as U of T professor Dan Dolderman and U of T astrophysicist and musician Matt Russo.

"The U of T community is so talented and diverse. We’re excited to be able to provide a platform for some of them to share their ideas at our biggest and best event yet," said Ellie Warsmann, 4th year student and chair of the TEDxUofT team. "TED talks are the most popular, accessible and engaging way to share cutting-edge information. We can’t wait for attendees to see what we have in store. It’s really going to be an incredible day."

Krull is a leading professor of analytical chemistry. His current research explores the use of nanoscale materials and microfluidics chip technologies that can help build devices for the detection of DNA and RNA biomarkers. His TEDx presentation will focus on the connection between nanotechnology and the possibility of eliminating disease states from inside a living cell.

Weiditch is a science communicator and content creator promoting women in STEM. Her PhD thesis focuses on the potential of bacteriophages to solve the antibiotic resistance crisis.

The conference theme of deconstructing will focus on stripping away layers of abstraction to uncover the essence of a concept. Deconstruction reveals how ideas at the core of such diverse fields as artificial intelligence, music, medicine and others are more related than they might seem. The full-day conference from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be webcast.
