Jeff graduated from McMaster University in 2014 with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences. Growing up, he always had a passion for helping others, and so logically, entered his undergraduate degree with the goal of becoming a medical doctor. By chance, he decided to broaden his horizons in third year by pursuing an internship with the McMaster Office of Sustainability, working on a number of projects including co-planning the Clean Air Commute on campus and spear-heading a composting pilot program in residence. He quickly realized that sustainability was really the field for him – a unique way to help people while not necessarily having to follow the typical path of becoming a doctor. In fact, when he thinks of himself as a sustainability professional, he often sees himself as a doctor of the world in many ways, as he has the opportunity to help the environment, society, and economy prosper. This, he thinks, makes sustainability the perfect field for him!

For the past 2 summers Jeff worked as a student intern for Sustainable Hamilton, a non-profit social enterprise. He worked on projects such as developing the initial framework for the Sustainable Hamilton Experiential Learning (SHEL) Program, the development of Sustainable Hamilton’s reporting program, and the planning of sustainability education events for businesses.

This past summer, Jeff pursued his passion for helping businesses become positive difference makers as an Associate with the Corporate Sustainability Group at the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). He was primarily responsible for the execution of a carbon risk analysis of RBC’s lending portfolio and the completion of a benchmarking study to assess industry sustainability best practices as a strategy piece for RBC’s citizenship team. Additionally, Jeff wrote a high-level briefing of Barclays’ citizenship strategy for senior executives of the bank as another informational component for RBC’s citizenship strategy development. Through his internships with Sustainable Hamilton and RBC, Jeff has been able to marry experiences in the non-profit and for-profit sectors, providing him with unique perspectives around sustainability in a professional setting.

In his spare time, Jeff enjoys singing, dancing, playing the piano and playing baseball
