During his academic journey, Faizan developed a strong passion for environmental science and management through several restoration ecology projects and specialized courses. As a research student, he gained exposure to several methods and techniques for sustainable environmental management. This furthered the development of his analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

 

These experiences led him to secure an internship with the City of Mississauga as an Environment Specialist focusing on improving corporate sustainability. Through his internship, Faizan created and helped launch an internal employee engagement program, Green Leaders, which targeted environmental issues within City facilities and operations. His dedication to corporate environmental responsibility earned him a spot on Corporate Knight’s inaugural “Top 30 under 30 List” which recognizes young people who are making a difference in sustainability.

 

Faizan’s current position requires him to consult with Fortune 500 companies and provide recommendations to help these companies move towards Sustainable Materials Management. Faizan researches and develops monthly newsletters regarding the waste and recycling markets for clients in the industry. He also works closely with industry experts to understand and publish informational blog pieces relating to the waste and recycling industry for the Continuous Improvement Fund (CIF). His additional duties include: assisting senior management in budget preparation, data analysis, website development and waste auditing and reporting.
