Bio

Ellen graduated from McGill University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her time at McGill, she minored in Environmental Science and was able to take courses in ecology, biodiversity, sustainability analytics and statistics. In her third year, Ellen had the opportunity to travel to Barbados for a field course in tropical ecology. Witnessing the destruction of coral reefs and essential ocean life first-hand, further affirmed her interests in sustainability and conserving biodiversity.

After graduating, Ellen spent two years working on the sustainability team at a corporate real estate and facilities management company called BGIS. During this time, she gained her LEED Green Associate accreditation and worked directly on several LEED and WELL projects. She also assisted in the production of the annual Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report where she gained experience with reporting standards such as GRI, TCFD and SASB. Throughout these projects she was also able to explore data analytics with a focus on energy, water and GHG emissions metrics. Her work experience led to a thorough understanding of how buildings and infrastructure directly affect the natural environment and how incorporating green building design principles can have an incredibly large impact on reducing emissions and reaching net zero.

In her free time, Ellen enjoys hiking, yoga, running and is an avid reader. She has also been a competitive highland dancer starting from a young age, which gave her the opportunity to travel to several countries around the world for performances and competitions.
