Bio

Sabrina completed her undergraduate degree at McMaster University, graduating with Distinction from the Health Science (Hons) Class of 2020. It was her concurrent business and sustainability electives that drove her to seek a career where she can lead teams in business decisions that are meaningful, authentic to her values, and impactful for her community. She is interested in environmental policy, food accessibility, and the intersectionality of economic and environmental wellbeing in our society and how this delicate balance can be improved.

While living in Hamilton, Sabrina was a dedicated volunteer to Mission Services with a goal to restore dignity in those that are socially or financially marginalized. Some of her duties included meal preparation, cleaning, and tutoring in writing and math. She also became President of the McMaster Soup Kitchen club where she began to recruit university students to volunteer at several woman’s shelters and food banks in the Hamilton Area. In addition, she held roles as VP of Marketing and VP of Finance for Jack.org, which is a group of undergraduate students devoted to raising awareness around mental health, decreasing stigma surrounding mental illnesses, and providing an outreach point for struggling students. She designed merchandise, advertised and organized events, fundraisers, and informational conferences.

Global Health and Environmental Policy was one course that both challenged and excited Sabrina. Throughout this course, she had the opportunity to investigate sustainability through a global health lens. As a major part of her final grade, she created a policy memo for reducing global environmental noise pollution. This proposal was one example of the innovative thinking Sabrina has committed to the topic of sustainable cities. Sabrina also had the opportunity to work for a downtown condominium with a net-zero energy apartment as a Customer Care Administrator. She directly communicated with interested clients on how hot water and electricity could be harnessed from solar panels all year round. She also has hands-on experience with safety compliance and maintenance of appliances through her experience with scheduling and overseeing tradespeople.

Most recently, Sabrina spent her time working for the Center of Addiction and Mental Health in the Schizophrenia Lab, where she was responsible for calling patients to schedule appointments, creating and distributing 300+ promotional materials (posters, media posts), and editing manuscripts. Although the study was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she continues to assist a master’s student in the creation of advertisements, telephone scripts, and grant applications for this study once it can resume. She believes that the team-setting challenges and communication of responsibilities are transferable skills that will be of value in her post-secondary education and future internship.

Sabrina is constantly looking for ways to make her day to day activities more environmentally conscientious, whether that involves transportation, diet, skincare, and so forth. She is keen on getting to implement this dedication to positively impacting the Earth on a larger scale. In her free time, she thoroughly enjoys doing yoga, running a sustainability and wellness blog, creating new vegan recipes, and exploring new cities. Sabrina has practiced martial arts and meditation throughout her life and continues to do so in her spare time.
