Bio

Melissa graduated in 2016 from Universidad del Norte (University of the North) in Colombia, where she received a Bachelor in Economics.  She has a keen interest in the intersection of the worlds of business and sustainability, as she is a firm believer that businesses can be successful and profitable while generating a positive impact to society.

For the last three years, Melissa has worked in the field of procurement at a holding company that has ventures in different industries such as energy, construction and coal mining. During this time, she led the procurement team and worked to develop and implement cost-effective purchasing strategies. This experience has given Melissa a unique chance to witness first-hand how the value chain works in various industries. Nonetheless, it also made her constantly wonder about the duty humans have in the creation of a business model that is responsible with its surroundings. Thus, she decided to educate herself and acquire the tools and skillset to build and maintain a sustainable business.

With the skills and knowledge Melissa has gained from her past professional experiences, she will be able to play an active role in the development of sustainability strategies within a business context.

Melissa is an enthusiastic and curious leader. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, baking, reading, traveling and trying out new restaurants.
