What is the PSDP?
The name Professional Skills Development Program (PSDP) summarizes it neatly: an exclusive opportunity for UTMM Commerce and Management students to give themselves a competitive edge, plus have that made official with credentials.
How is the PSDP beneficial?
Learning skills beyond academics is vital to your career success. Employers are increasingly looking for candidates whose professional skills complement the required technical ones. Participating in the PSDP demonstrates you’re committed to continuous learning and professional development. The PSDP strengthens your employability and makes you more competitive for the job market.
Who can participate in the PSDP?
The program is strictly for UTMM Commerce and Management students, although the 1st years can participate only where registration space is available.
Note: Students who do not get accepted into either Commerce or Management programs will not be able to apply for PSDP Transcript Notation with the Department. The Department will consider PSDP points collected within a students' first year towards the Transcript Notation requirement.
When can I start and complete the PSDP?
You can start the PSDP program at any point in undergrad years (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or final year). While there is no obligation, there are additional benefits of completing the PSDP Transcript Notation Requirement early:
- Receive your PSDP Notation on your Official UofT Transcript early while you apply for graduate programs or full-time/part-time employment
- Meet the requirements for the UTMM Awards
Is there a cost to participate in PSDP?
More than 90% of the PSDP program is free of charge to students. The following exceptions include:
- Case Competitions (RSM - Marketing Conference, Show Me the Green - Sustainability Conference)
- Specialized workshops (Marquee Workshop, Dining Etiquette etc...)
Can I re-use an event to fulfill my PSDP Transcript Notation requirement?
No, students can only use one event per category. However, the Department introduced Alternative Categories to help you complete the PSDP Transcript Notation. Some events meet more than one PSDP criteria. So, if you earn more than the minimum PSDP points for a specific category, you can use the additional events to meet the requirements of other categories where you lack points. Likewise, you can attend the same event in subsequent years to use the event to meet another recognized PSDP category requirement.
What are the steps required to have an event not listed on PSDP’s website considered for PSDP points?
Within two weeks of completing your activity, submit the PSDP Point Request Form available on UTMM iHub to the PSDP team for review and approval. You will receive a decision on your request for the event within 2-3 weeks from submission date.
I have more questions about the PSDP. Who can I speak to?
