UTM Staff

The University of Toronto Mississauga is “deeply saddened” by the death of Vasu Chanchlani, a prominent leader in the Mississauga community and a donor and friend to U of T Mississauga, says Professor Deep Saini, U of T vice-president and UTM principal.

“Vasu was a great friend to U of T Mississauga and a man who had a profound impact on the Mississauga community,” said Saini. “He was widely respected by those who knew him and, in his all-too-brief time, inspired people and nurtured excellence both in Canada and abroad.”

Chanchlani, who passed away Sept. 7, had a warm relationship with several members of the UTM community, including Saini. He was also a prominent volunteer for the campus, serving as a member of U of T Mississauga’s Boundless Campaign Cabinet. His lead investment in the Centre for South Asian Civilizations helped to realize an important academic enterprise that advances cultural exchange with the South Asian community. The Centre proposes to research and explore South Asian issues through the lens of many disciplines, including politics, history, religion and literature.

Saini and the U of T Mississauga community extended their deepest condolences to Chanchlani’s wife, Jayshree, and their three children, Tina, Neil and Sonia.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Sunday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m., Hindu Sabha Temple, 9225 The Gore Rd., Brampton, ON
