Helping families and students address life after high school

U of T News

Deciding which path to take after high school is a daunting challenge for students and their families. There are many options available, but how do you decide which option is best suited for you?

The Ontario School Counsellors' Association (OSCA) has just released What's Next: Your Guide to Education and Career/Life Planning in Ontario, featuring links and information on apprenticeship, college, entrepreneurship, gap year and university.

"This is a unique guide that addresses the many options students have after high school," says Jacquie Latham, OSCA executive director.  "Students will be able to work through questions to help determine their strengths and needs, and examine the possibilities and opportunities for their future."

"We are very excited about this guide.  It will help students and their families explore a variety of choices and make informed decisions together," says Lorretta Neebar, associate registrar at the University of Toronto Mississauga, who served as an advisor on this project.

Developed with the support of the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario (HEQCO), and the University of Toronto Mississauga, the guide is designed to align with the Ministry of Education's - Education and Career/Life Planning Policy Document - Creating Pathways to Success. This document is currently being implemented across Ontario. The guide enables guidance counsellors to incorporate the information into current curriculum and planning.

The free guide is available for download on the OSCA website: www.osca.ca. Translations of the guide will be available in the future.
