We recently celebrated Nowruz together with the Department of Historical Studies. Nowruz, which means 'new day' in Persian, is the Persian New Year and is celebrated on the first day of spring. On this day, people celebrate the renewal of life by preparing a haft sin table (pictured below). Seven items with names beginning with س (the letter 'S', or sin, in Persian) are carefully selected for their significance and displayed on the table. For example, sabzeh 'grass' represents renewal, seer 'garlic' represents contentment, and sib 'apple' represents good health.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate, and thank you to Prof. Zeinab Farokhi (Department of Historical Studies), Sima Farsandaj, Mojgan Osmani, and Prof. Arsalan Kahnemuyipour for organizing this event!
