We’re thrilled to announce that ITA315 will be performing the comedy/drama Mambo Italiano, a play written by Canadian playwright Steve Galluccio, based on his own experiences of coming out as gay to his Italian-Canadian family while growing up in Montreal.
Learn more about:
- the history of Italian theatre traditions and plays
- thematically-related plays, the specific playwright, and adaptations of the piece in focus, and meet the playwright, himself!
Students will also be involved in the production and performance of the play, from sourcing costumes and props, designing the set, promoting the play, brainstorming fundraising ideas, liaising with the community, and more!
Knowledge of Italian is not required; students who audition for a speaking role in the play may be cast in an English-speaking role or an Italian-speaking role.
Students of ITA315 will form this year’s iteration of the theatre troupe Maschere Duemondi!
