Congratulations to Harshita Nagireddy and Ola Suschenko for their Performance in the 25th Chinese Bridge Competition (Toronto Final)!

Two of our students, Harshita Nagireddy (CHI204H5) and Ola Suschenko (CHI104H5), participated in the Toronto Region Final of the 25th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition on April 25. This annual competition, sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, China, and the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto, was hosted by Trent University this year.

Participants prepared a speech under the theme “One World, One Family” and a talent performance to demonstrate their proficiency in Chinese and their engagement with Chinese culture. Harshita performed a traditional Chinese dance, while Ola sang the popular Chinese song "Tian Mi Mi". Both performances were well received by the judges and audience.

This is the second year that Harshita (left) has participated in this competition, and this year, she received Second Prize! Harshita has also won an all-expenses-paid trip to China, as she has been selected by the Toronto organizing committee to be an official observer representative at the global finals of this year's "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition, which will be held in China. 

Harshita shared that her Chinese language courses have been her favourite courses each semester. Although she was initially hesitant about competing in this year’s competition with five final exams to study for and only two days in between her last exam and the competition, she went ahead with registering at the last minute with Dr. Xinliang Jiang’s encouragement. She is grateful to Dr. Jiang and Dr. Jing Wang for their guidance and support in preparing for the competition, as she is now able to realize her dream of visiting China! 

Ola (right) received an Outstanding Award to commemorate her participation in this year's competition.
