Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the End of World War II (Tuesday, November 25, 2025)
Cultural worker, art critic, and curator Dr. Yaohsing (Jason) Kao will be delivering a lecture on November 25, 2025, 5–7pm, in CDRS (MN 3230).
This lecture marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Drawing on Dr. Kao’s research and his collection of wartime artifacts, the event explores how experiences of the war in different regions, including East Asia, continue to shape cultural memory, identity, and our understanding of the twentieth century. Students, faculty, and community members are invited to engage in reflection and dialogue on the broader human and historical dimensions of the conflict.
Dr. Yaohsing (Jason) Kao is a cultural worker, art critic, and curator based in Toronto. Born in Taipei with family roots in Shandong, he holds an MA from McGill University and a PhD from the University of Toronto. His work focuses on the relationship between art and politics and the history of modern Chinese art, and he has curated exhibitions of Second World War artifacts drawn from his extensive private collection.
