Chinese Spring Festival Celebration Recap

On February 11, we welcomed in 2026, the Year of the Horse, in a joyful celebration of the Chinese Spring Festival with nearly 40 members of the UTM community.

Participants learned about the cultural significance of the Chinese Spring Festival and some of the traditional customs, and then tested their memory with a fun quiz with prizes. Winners of the quiz and the lucky raffle took home Year of the Horse plushies! Everyone practiced greeting each other with appropriate New Year greetings in Chinese and learned how to sing the festive song Gong Xi Fa Cai. There was also a time for hands-on activities, including practicing Chinese calligraphy and creating decorations, wishing for happiness and good fortune in the new year.

Thank you to Dr. Xinliang Jiang for organizing this event, and special thanks to Dr. Jing Wang, Dr. Jing Li, and our student volunteers for their generous help in meticulously decorating the room to create a festive and auspicious atmosphere and in leading the various activities.

It was wonderful to be able to spend time with friends, celebrating the new year together, in the true spirit of the Chinese Spring Festival. We wish you all the very best in the Year of the Horse!
