Student Leadership Award

Overview 

The ISUP Student Leadership Award recognizes up to two (2) students who have modeled outstanding leadership and initiative in support of peer-led academic programming. 

This award will be presented to individuals who have been influential in working with staff and faculty to help build and grow programs and initiatives that develop students’ academic skills and enhance their learning experience. The award winners’ contributions will have directly led to significant program improvement and supported the professional development of their peers. 

Eligibility 

To be eligible for this award, candidates must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:  

  • Have been registered part-time or full-time as a student at UTM within the past 24 months. This includes current students and students who have recently graduated. 
  • Have completed at least 10.0 credits at UTM at the time of their nomination. 
  • Have been in good academic standing when most recently registered as a student at UTM. 
  • Have demonstrated, within the past 24 months, involvement in, and commitment to, academic peer-led programming or ISUP/RGASC initiative. 
  • Have served in a position of leadership or responsibility in a program or initiative that enhances student academic skills. 

Selection Criteria  

Nominees for this award will be evaluated according to the following criteria: 

  • Proficiency in academic skills. 
  • Leading the academic or professional development of other students. 
  • Effective collaboration with staff and/or faculty on key areas of program development. 
  • Modelling of excellent leadership in the form of decision-making, management, and delegation. 

Nomination Process 

A nomination package must be submitted via this nomination form before January 31st of the current academic year to qualify for this award.  

To apply for the award, please submit: 

  • A copy of the nominee’s CV. 
  • The name of a staff member or instructor who can provide a letter of endorsement for the student. 
  • A detailed statement from the student specifying how they meet the criteria for the award. The statement should answer the following questions: 
  • How did you demonstrate leadership in the academic or professional development of other students? Please include specific experience(s) in your response. (200 words max.) 
  • How did you collaborate effectively with staff and/or faculty on key areas of program development? Please include specific experience(s) in your response. (200 words max.) 
  • How did you model excellent leadership in the form of decision-making, management, and delegation? Please include specific examples in your response. (300 words max.) 

The ISUP Awards Committee will determine the recipient, based on the criteria outlined, and announce the winner before March 30th of the current academic year.
