Student Experience Student Leader Bursary

Why have a bursary for student leaders?

In a effort to better support our staff development and provide a unique opportunity for student leaders, the Centre for Student Engagement (CSE), Student Housing & Residence Life (SHRL) and the International Centre have created the Student Experience Student Leader Bursary as an incentive for participation in the UTM Abroad Guatemala Glocal Impact Project (GIP). This experience has been shaped to build upon the foundation student leaders already have and take their personal and professional development to the next level. The departments hope to support the personal and professional development of student leaders and foster connections back that are beneficial to each department.

UTM Abroad Glocal Impact Projects Overview

UTM Abroad Glocal Impact Projects (GIP) is a new student development program by the International Education Centre. The word “Glocal” is a combination of the words Global and Local to illustrate the global and local learning experiences of the GIP program. UTM students from any year with a CGPA of 1.50 can participate in the GIP program, which consists of three components. Upon completion of the three activities, students are able to achieve three Co-Curricular Record (CCR) credits.Read more about the Guatemala GIP here.

Benefits to SHRL, CSE, and IEC:

  • Cross departmental collaboration
  • Personal and professional development targeted to their role as student leaders
  • Community connections locally and abroad that will bring returns to each department (global awareness, community building, leadership, etc.)
