International & New-to-Canada Student Welcome

International and New-to-Canada Student Welcome

The International & New-to-Canada Student Welcome, in collaboration with the University of Toronto Mississauga Student Union (UTMSU), is open to all students that identify as international, permanent residents, or new immigrants. The event will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 11am - 3pm in the Blind Duck Pub.

The International & New-to-Canada Student Welcome event will allow you to:

  • Participate in fun activities where you will meet fellow international and new-to-Canada students;
  • Meet and interact with the International Education Centre staff and UTMSU representatives;
  • Learn where to access essential information about immigration requirements for international students;
  • Learn how to enroll in the mandatory University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) and access health services;
  • Learn about social and cultural adjustment and ways to adapt to a new country, culture and academic environment;
  • Explore Mississauga via a bus tour while you learn about key landmarks and the various niche supermarkets within the city.

The University of Toronto Mississauga and the UTMSU will host a range of orientation activities that will continue throughout the month of September for all students who are interested in internationally focused events and activities. Join the International Education Centre (IEC) for a trip to Niagara Falls, come get your study permit checked, obtain a Social Insurance Number (SIN) at our SIN Clinic (September 16, 2019), and learn how to make the most of UTM’s Study Abroad and International Internship experiences.
