Counselling Support in Multiple Languages

TELUS HEALTH STUDENT SUPPORT (THSS) - MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT FOR ALL UOFT STUDENTS

THSS: Support When You Need It

Are you stressed about school, struggling with your transition to Canada, having challenges in your relationships with friends or family?

THSS ( formerly UofT My SSP) provides U of T international students with immediate and/or ongoing confidential, 24 hour support at no cost to you. You can call or chat with a counsellor directly from your phone whenever, wherever you are.

The service is provided by keep.meSAFE in partnership with Morneau Shepell. International students still have access to existing campus resources (e.g. UTM Health & Counselling Centre) and community mental health services (e.g. Good2Talk); THSS is an additional support service for all students.

Multilingual Support Specifically for International Students

THSS support is available in many languages and their counsellors have experience supporting the unique challenges international students face. Ongoing support is available over the phone in 146 languages. Immediate support is available over the phone in 35 languages and over chat in simplified Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Spanish, English and French.

THSS can support students through a wide range of issues that may be impacting their time in Canada, their mental health and their well-being, including:

  • Personal or family relationships
  • Loneliness
  • Financial concerns
  • Language and cultural barriers
  • Balancing work and school
  • Difficulty adjusting to life in Canada or university

Call or Chat for 24/7 Support

You can download the Telus Health Student Support app on the Apple App Store or Google Play to get started

Once downloaded, complete your profile set-up and read the disclaimer. Using the Telus Health Student Support app, you can call or chat with a counsellor anytime. You can also access the service 24/7 by calling 1-844-451-9700. Outside of North America, call 001-416-380-6578.

When you call, you will be greeted by an automatic menu that will ask you to confirm that you are an international student and state whether this is an emergency. You will then be greeted by a Clinical Care Representative who will collect additional information, including: school, full name, birthday, postal code and language preference, prior to connecting you with a Clinical Care Counsellor.

You can initiate a chat support session directly through the Telus Health Student Support app. When you initiate a chat, you will be greeted by a Clinical Care Representative who will ask you some general information about yourself prior to connecting you with a Clinical Care Counsellor.

Before you can start chatting, you must read through the disclaimers and make sure your profile is complete (all check marks must be green) to proceed.

Confidential Support

THSS is completely confidential within the limits of the law, so no one - including your family, friends, or professors - will ever know you used the program unless you choose to tell them. (A few exceptions apply, so please read through the disclaimers in the Telus Student Support app to learn more).
