What is a Student Social?

It's a very casual time and space for UTM students to get together, take a break, have some snacks, and meet some new people. Bring a friend, or come on your own. All are welcome!

We keep the time low-key, we always have a theme or small activity available, and the time is flexible - stay for as little or as long as you like during the event.

You can bring some school work and enjoy a space to think, participate in the activities we have, or just chat with the other students who attend.

Where and When?

We typically hold our events in UTM Room. The UTM Room is held on the 3rd Floor of the Davis Building, above Tim Horton's.

We try to choose different days of the week and times of day for the Student Socials to try and give as many options as possible.

Who is this for?

Much of the content is put together for new-to-UTM students who identify as international students. We try to put together topics and discussions that would be helpful to being on a new campus and in a new country. However, all UTM students are welcome and encouraged to attend our Student Socials. One of the goals of our socials is to give a space for our diverse student body to interact with each other.

We invite a number of upper year students who volunteer with the IEC. These students are a great resource for new students and a really great opportunity to meet someone who has been on the UTM campus for a couple of years.

You might also hear these socials referred to as the 'Buddy Program'. Socials count towards participation in the IEC Buddy Program. If you are interested in joining this program, please see more details under the Buddy Program tab and then let us know.
