Felix

Félix Desmeules-Trudel

Félix is currently a Bilingual Knowledge Mobilization Specialist at Research Impact Canada. He worked as Postdoctoral Fellow in the lab with a research focus on psycholinguistics, language development, second language acquisition and bilingualism, phonetics, phonology, and lexicon. He received a B.A. in Language Sciences from the Université Laval, a M.A. in Linguistics from Université Laval and a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Ottawa.

Natalie Fecher

Natalie Fecher

Natalie is currently an aquisitions editor with De Gruyter. She worked as a Research Associate and Postdoctoral Fellow in the lab with a research focus on phonetics, speaker recognition by infants, children, and adults, forensic speech science, and auditory-visual speech processing. She received her MA in Phonetics and Speech Processing in 2009 from the Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich, Germany after which she graduated with a PhD in Linguistics (Forensic Speech Science) from the University of York, United Kingdom.

Angela Cooper

Angela Cooper

Angela is currently a Research Associate at BEworks, a Toronto based Behavioural Science company. Prior to this she was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the C.L.A.S.S. lab. Angela obtained her BA and MA in Linguistics from Simon Fraser University. She graduated with a PhD in Linguistics from Northwestern University, USA.

Baby Melissa

Melissa Paquette-Smith

Melissa is currently a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at UCLA. Prior to teaching at UCLA, she completed her doctorate in Psychology at the University of Toronto. Her doctorate research looked at how infants process social information in their environment, and how this processing relates to the development of linguistic and social competencies. Before beginning her doctorate work, she received her MA in Psychology as well a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Biology from the University of Toronto.

Helen Buckler

Helen received her BA in German & Linguistics and MA in Languages & Linguistics at the University of Manchester, UK, including a year studying at the University of Leipzig, Germany. She then completed a PhD in the newly formed graduate school, the IMPRS for Language Sciences, at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics and Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. She was a PostDoc in the lab from January 2014 to May 2017. She is currently a Professor in the department of Linguistics at the University of Nottingham.

Marieke received her PhD in Psychology from the University of Toronto in the summer of 2012. Marieke was a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Laboratoire de Sciences Cognitives et Psycholinguistique in Paris, France and is currently Assistant Professor in the department of Psychology at the University of Buffalo.

Dena completed a Masters Degree in the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto Mississauga in 2012. She is currently working as a data scientist at GEOTAB.

Huiwen Goy

Outside Project PhD Student

Huiwen Goy was a PhD student in the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto. She completed her BSc in anthropology at the University of Toronto at Mississauga, and her MA in psychology at the University of Toronto. She is interested in the interactions between speech perception and speech production, including how people change the way they talk in different communication environments, and how different speech and voice characteristics affect speech understanding by various groups of listeners. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the SMART Lab at Ryerson University, and was a postdoctoral research associate at Sonova Group. She is currently a feelance Data Scientist.

 

Kaz Bamba

Kaz completed his Master's program in linguistics at the University of Toronto. He joined the CLASS lab as a volunteer in September 2014 since he had been interested in infant language acquisition and bilingualism/multilingualism. He is currently completing a PhD program in Linguistics at the University of Toronto.

Sherry completed a ROP in April 2021. She is currently completing a HBSc in Psychology at the University of Toronto Mississauga. She expects to graduate in June 2022 and would like to pursue a career as a healthcare provider.

Mansi completed a ROP in the lab in August 2021. She is currently studying at the University of Toronto Mississauga pursuing a HSBc in Psychology with a secondary major in Criminology, Law & Society. She expects to graduate in June of 2023 and plans to pursue a career that combines her passion for rehabilitation science and the legal field.

Ethan Antidormi

Ethan completed a ROP in the lab in April 2021. He then continued in the lab as a Research Assistant by obtaining a prestigious NSERC-USRA award. He is currently completing a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy at McMaster University.

Lorena worked in the lab as a Research Assistant and as a ROP student. She is currently pursuing a medical degree at St. George Medical School in Grenada.

Momina worked in the lab for over 3 years. She completed a ROP and an IRP as well as working as a Research Assisant. She is currently completing a Phd in the Clinical Psychology Program at Dalhousie University.

Arshnoor started in the lab as a ROP student and went on to complete an honours thesis. She continued as a Research Assistant after receiving a SSHRC-USRA award. She is currently working at an optometrists office with the goal of becoming an optometrist herself.

Ayesha completed a ROP in April 2021. She is currently studying Biology at the University of Toronto Missisauga and plans to graduate in June 2023. She hopes to pursue a career in research for genetics.

Mariam Galytskyy

Mariam was an ROP and Honours Thesis Student in the lab. She received the prestigious NSERC-USRA award in the summer of 2020 and graduated with an HBSc in Psychology and Biology in June 2021. She plans to become a speech-language pathologist or continue research in psychology.

Juliet Miinalainen

Juliet graduated with an HBSc (Specialist in Psychology and Minor in Biology). She plans to attend medical school in hopes of becoming a psychiatrist. She completed an IRP in the lab during the fall of 2020.

She have lived in six different cities across four countries and her interests include reading, table tennis, and calligraphy.

Gauri is currently pursuing a specialist in Psychology and Major in Linguistics with an expected date of graduation of June 2021. In June 2020 she completed an honours thesis with the lab and would like to pursue a career that somehow combines psychology and linguistics. She loves gardening, horseback riding, and sleeping (in that order).

Ala started in the lab as a volunteer before going on to complete a ROP and honours thesis as well as several terms as a work study student. Gresha completed a ROP in the summer of 2019. She is currently completing a HBSc Double Major in Biology for Health Science and Psychology with plans to graduate in 2022. She hopes to pursue a career as a child psychiatrist and conduct research in the field of psychiatry.

Abdul was a volunteer in the lab from May 2019 - September 2019. He is currently completing a HBSc major in biology for health sciences with a double minor in psychology and chemistry with plans to graduate in 2021. He hopes to become a pediatrician/pediatric dentist.

She graduated with a HBA in Linguistics and French Studies in June 2018.  She is currently working in the Career Centre at the University of Toronto as a Career and Events Planner. Khrystyna completed an international summer internship with the lab in 2019. She is currently completing a degree in Applied Linguistics at Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine). She hopes to get a master's degree in Applied Linguistics.

Runyi completed an international summer internship with the lab in 2019. She is currently a Junior undergraduate in Jilin University, KYM honor program in humanities, majoring in Chinese language and literature, with a minor in history. She hopes to pursue a higher degree in linguistics.

Mariam was a volunteer in the lab the summer of 2019. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology Cognition and Neuroscience at the University of Michigan. Mariam hopes to pursue a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology.

Shurkri graduated with an Exceptionality Human Learning Specialist, with a Linguistics minor in June 2018. Shukri started as an ROP student in May of 2016 and continued in the lab as a volunteer, a work study student, and and IRP student. She was awarded a SSHRC USRA in the summer of 2018. She is currently a speech-language pathologist with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board.

Lisa worked as a research assistant in the lab and has completed the Masters of Speech Language Pathology program at the University of Toronto. She is currently a Speech - Language Pathologist.

Having joined the lab in March 2013, she was accepted into a Masters of Developmental Psychology and Education program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) in 2015 and is currently a policy analyst at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

Alyssa believes that her experience working at the Infant Language and Speech Lab will greatly enhance her understanding of language acquisition in children and will benefit her as an aspiring teacher of languages. In her free time, she volunteers with CNIB and enjoys watching movies, reading books and travelling. She is currently a teacher at Vaughan Secondary School.

Cristina was an ROP student in the lab from September 2014 - April 2015. She graduated with a  Bachelor of Science in the psychology specialist program at UTM in June 2016. She completed a Masters of Teaching program at OISE and is currently at teacher with the Durham District School Board

Kelsey completed a Masters in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Toronto and is currently a Speech Language Pathologist with Boomerang Health.

Nazia completed an ROP in the lab in the summer of 2011, stayed in the lab as a work study student and research assistant, as well as an IRP student. Nazia graduated from high school with an IB Diploma and completed medical school in the Caribbean. She is currently a resident doctor at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

Ramandeep Sehra

In 2012, Raman received an NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award and worked in the Infant Language and Speech Lab over the summer. In 2015 Sehra was accepted into the Masters of Clinical Developmental Psychology at York University and is now completing a phd.

In the vast field of psychology, she finds the areas of developmental psychology and neuroscience very interesting and aspires to continue her studies in graduate school in the near future. She is currently a Business Advisor for the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Growth.

Caterina Minaudo

Caterina is a graduate from the University of Toronto Mississauga with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Psychology and Biology. She began in the lab as an ROP student in the fall of 2010, and stayed as a Research Assistant throughout the summer. During the 2011/12 school year, Caterina worked on an Independent Research Project examining children's ability to predict upcoming words in speech. In the 2012-2013 academic year, Caterina was the lab manager for the Infant Language and Speech Lab. Caterina completed a Masters in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Alberta and is currently a speech-language pathologist with Rehab First.

She is extremely interested in language acquisition, abnormal psychology, child development and disability. Yuliya joined the lab as a volunteer in the Winter of 2011 and completed an ROP project in the summer of 2011 and IRP project in 2012. Yuliya currently is a speech language pathologist with Speech Advantage.

Amna joined the UTM Infant Speech and Language Lab in September 2011. She is currently a fourth year student in the final stages for completing her Hon.B.Sc. at the University of Toronto, with Psychology and Sociology as majors. With extensive knowledge about developmental psychology during this time and extensive research experience over the subject of autism from this lab, she intends to pursue her career as an Applied Behaviour Analyst (ABA). She is highly interested in helping children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other social and developmental disabilities.
