Indigenous Spirit Journey

Indigenous Spirit Journey Program

The Centre for Student Engagement provides an Indigenious Spirit Journey (ISJ) Program. This is an opportunity for UTM students to act as a mentor and provide positive life and career pathways for Indigenous high school youth in the Peel Region.

UTM Student Mentors will prepare strategies for their youth mentees, aimed at developing strong community leadership skills, an understanding of the importance of fostering inter-cultural inclusion, respect for diversity, connection to one’s own culture and a deeper understanding of their role in the community. Mentors will also learn to identify outcomes and best practices in relation to several teaching components including therapeutic horticulture, environmental education, leadership development and Indigenous cultural teachings to re-awaken intrinsic connections to the land.
