An accessible overview of quantum computing highlighting recent advances in the industry will be given, with applied examples of how quantum algorithms can be used to solve applied problems in finance. In particular, a quantum machine learning framework to solve a credit scoring problem and a hybrid quantum-classical algorithm to solve a portfolio optimization problem are demonstrated. The talk will also feature an interactive Q&A session to answer any questions the audience has about quantum computing in general and its current and near-term applications

Global experts will be discussing the ways in which big data and artificial intelligence are being used to fight money laundering and human trafficking.  An estimated USD $2 trillion in illegal funds is laundered every year around the globe.These funds represent the proceeds of crime. In the case of human trafficking, these crimes include sexual exploitation, forced labour (slavery), organ removal, sale of children and more.

In memory of the loss of Professor Barbara Murck and Rose Mary Craig, we will be dedicating this year’s Sustainability Week to these two fierce advocates of both love and sustainability. As such, we will be opening Sustainability Week on Monday March 13th with a panel discussion on Love + Sustainability. Join Professors Shashi Kant, Stephen Scharper, Andrea Olive, and Blake Poland to discuss why both Love and Sustainability are two sides of the same coin.

Frontiers in the Economics of Markets and Organizations Workshop

In this session, you will learn how to write prompts that work, how to avoid prompts that don't, and how to make your own chatbot that talks like a human (or an alien, or a cat, or whatever you want).

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) works to protect investors, foster fair and efficient markets, and contribute to the stability of the financial system by monitoring compliance with rules governing the capital markets in Ontario. In this seminar, we will discuss the types of investigations the Enforcement Branch of the OSC works on, with real-life examples, the type of data we use and how we leverage that data to fulfill our mandate efficiently and effectively. We will also discuss how close collaboration between the forensic accountants and data scientists from the onset of an investigation is key and how technologies can assist in uncovering wrongdoing.

AI can be a powerful tool in helping society reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to a changing climate, from optimizing electrical grids to monitoring land cover and crop yield.

In this presentation, we will explore opportunities and challenges in AI-for-climate, as well as policy levers by which governments can facilitate such work. We will also consider ways that AI is contributing to climate change, and how to better align the use of AI overall with climate goals.
