Irene M. Wiecek, FCPA, FCA, is a Professor, Teaching Stream at the University of Toronto where she is cross-appointed to the Institute for Management & Innovation and Joseph L. Rotman School of Management. Irene has been involved in professional accounting education for over twenty-five years, sitting on various university and provincial/national professional accounting organization committees as well as developing and directing the CPA Canada IFRS Immersion Programs for practising accountants and founding and co-directing the CPA/Rotman Centre for Innovation in Accounting Education. In the area of standard setting, she is currently a member of the Accounting Standards Board IFRS Discussion Group.

Irene has co-authored numerous books and publications including seven editions of the text Intermediate Accounting (by Kieso et al) for which she is one of two Canadian co-authors on the Canadian edition. Irene’s interests lie in the area of International Financial Reporting Standards, Integration in Accounting Education and most currently, big data and emerging technologies including blockchain. Irene is a member of the CPA Canada Foresight Working Group on Reimaging the Profession. She is in the process of launching a new sandbox which will allow stakeholders to experiment with new ideas related to big data and emerging technologies.
