UTM launches new VPN
On March 13, 2020, University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) Information & Instructional Technology Services (I&ITS) launched a new virtual private network (VPN) service, UTM VPN, which allows faculty and staff to securely connect to the UTM network when working off campus.
How to connect
To get started, visit the UTM VPN page, which includes links to step-by-step instructions on how to download and install the GlobalProtect application, and connect to UTM VPN from your devices.
Launched six weeks ahead of schedule
The UTM I&ITS Datacentre Operations team had originally planned to launch the new VPN near the end of April. However, as more information became available about COVID-19 and its effects worldwide, the launch date was moved March 13, six weeks ahead of the originally scheduled launch date.
How it works
When connected to UTM’s VPN solution, Palo Alto Networks GlobalProtect, U of T traffic is encrypted and routed through UTM’s network, providing additional protection for U of T data, passwords, and sensitive information.
Next step: eToken
The I&ITS Datacentre Operations team is currently working on UTM VPN2 for eToken applications.
