Smarter Tools, Stronger Security, and a More Seamless Experience

This spring, we’re rolling out meaningful changes that improve how you collaborate, protect your information, and use Microsoft 365 tools across campus. From AI-powered features to behind-the-scenes upgrades, here's what's new and what's next:

Security & Account Protection

Microsoft 365 Copilot (AI Tool)

Microsoft 365 Copilot offers AI-powered assistance in apps like Word, Excel, and Outlook. Interested in trying it out? Contact us to request access.

Smarter Email Protection with DMARC

A new university-wide email policy is being implemented to verify that emails claiming to be from U of T really are. If a sender isn't authenticated, their message may be flagged or quarantined. This will help reduce spam, scams, and phishing.

Feature Updates & Microsoft Tools

Microsoft Teams Premium (UX Research Pilot)

UTM is participating in a UX research pilot for Microsoft Teams Premium, exploring features like AI-generated meeting recaps and improved collaboration tools. If you’re interested in joining or learning more, reach out — limited spots are available.

New: End-to-End Encryption for Teams Calls

You can now encrypt your Teams calls for added privacy. Just note: this will turn off features like captions and transcription during the call.

Outlook Update Coming

Microsoft will fully transition users to the new version of Outlook by 2026. You can preview it now with a simple toggle.

Microsoft Teams & SharePoint Cleanup

To improve collaboration and reduce clutter, we’re introducing annual attestations to identify and clean up unused Teams. We'll be reaching out to team owners as part of this process. Stay tuned!

Other Ongoing Projects

LISTSERV Review & Email Updates
We’re modernizing mass email lists to improve reliability and reduce inactive lists.

We’re committed to supporting a more secure, connected, and efficient digital environment at UTM. As always, we’ll continue to share updates as new tools roll out and existing services evolve. If you have questions or want to learn more about any of the changes above, don’t hesitate to reach out.
