We are pleased to announce that Dr. Amanda Lagerkvist will be delivering the 2026 ICCIT Annual Lecture on April 24. Her talk, AI as Existential Media: Refiguring Human–Technology Relationality at 'the End Times,' will explore how a global moment of interrelated crises has permitted the advanced technologies that we call “AI” to hijack the future.

Lagerkvist is professor of media and communication studies at Uppsala University, Sweden. She is a primary investigator of the Uppsala Hub for Digital Existence; guest researcher at the Centre for Multidisciplinary Research on Religion and Society (CRS) at Uppsala University; and core fellow at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies at the University of Helsinki. As a Wallenberg Academy Fellow, she founded the field of existential media studies.

The ICCIT Annual Lecture invites scholars who bring different theoretical orientations, philosophies, and methodologies to human-technology problems. This year's lecture will be held at the Collaborative Digital Research Space (CDRS) at UTM and followed by a short reception.
